We are accountable to keep our commitments to people. Accountability always involves people and relationships. How we see people will determine if we are accountable to them.
What you do consistently determines what you achieve. The Accountable Leader™ knows what to consistently focus on and that always revolves around the people they lead.
When we stop judging others and start working on ourselves then we position ourselves to better serve the people around us and be accountable to them.
An elected official on national television blatantly denies something when asked, only to have to backtrack the next day as the truth comes out. Another elected official has over 70% of their statements documented as “not true”. Social media outlets overflow with false news. Does the truth not matter to anyone anymore? Can accountability exist in our post-truth world?
Do we not know we’re being lied to or do we just not care? Recently when I mentioned the amount of lies produced by one candidate the person I was speaking with said, “I just think that all politicians lie. That’s just the way it is.”
If enough people lie, then it’s okay?
The privilege of leadership is directly connected to honor and service. Honor flows to the leader because of the impact they have had on the organization and the people they lead.
The Accountable Leader is responsible for the spirit of the organization. It is that spirit that will attract, motivate and provide growth for the organization.
There is no such thing as self-leadership. There is self-development and personal growth but self-leadership doesn’t exist.
Everything rises and falls on leadership. The leader’s energy sets the pace.
